ARC
Michael Dudley
Francine Porad

upon
the mountain
arc of rainbow shadow

power from the buffalo
scratched in rock

invisibly snow disappearing in an April wind

breezy attitude
`easy come, easy go'
lotto losers tossed

the meadow's only tree
I wave back with both hands

traffic cop doing his job

rainpool
each corner of the cornfield
a couple of ducks

new parents hover over
babe in the bassinet

snail midway up a willow in the rain

indecision:
which paintings to enter
in competition

on his arm cast
the student mixes watercolors

gray clouds, tinged pink

elm
my thoughts
climb up and down

roof repairman
takes a sun break

red leaves in mud the trail I follow

the unveiling
to see her name
carved in stone . . .

clouds ripple
I float on my back

one balloon higher and higher

they stare straight ahead,
an old woman and a cat
in the parked, locked car.

peace conference at last
face to face and talking

left behind /a lawnchair folded against the headstone

seeking a response
for the poem . . .
I have not lived that line

wind tips the teeter-
totter into balance

gambling wheel stops on her number

wide-winged, a hawk
rises above the plume
of crematorium smoke

dying leaves fall
on the trace of snow

ice crystals the newborn calf's coat

Christmas
in the paralyzed limb
a tingling

building up in the crooks of trees
nests of new snow

finch finds the peanut-buttered pinecone

day
peep
crocus

telescopic close-up
of the distant window
